“Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.”
― William Butler Yeats, The Land of Heart’s Desire

A mind can conjure and hands can create. Illustrator Sarah de Buck (Syrah Victoria) aspires to capture the fleeting fantasies of the mind, to seize a spark of the sublime and to give shape to the fantastic, mystic and odd fancies of the psyche.

Sarah draws her inspiration from literature, philosophy and the wondrous world of her own imagination. She has a great fascination for the Romantic era, especially for its melancholic imagery, to be found in the works of her favourite authors and poets: Le Fanu, Keats and Poe. With her love for the intricate and symbolic, gothic stories and fairy tales are her favourite subjects to draw. She does not limit herself to these themes however, being curious and inquisitive of character.

Sarah has made illustrations for books and card decks, posters for orchestras, album covers and character designs. She has a running murder mystery web comic called Maddison and Sam. Be it sketching or finishing polished illustrations, drawing is Sarah’s ultimate passion.
